Loading
Loading is the most common point at which a good selection is compromised, and the relevant decisions are made well before the reactor is opened.
Loading in detail
Method matters: dense, sock or spray loading each have different uniformity characteristics and different demands on the catalyst's physical form.
Sequence matters too — the order in which support, inert, grading and active catalyst are charged, and the quantity of each. Density and bed level are measured during loading, and deviations are corrected rather than accepted.
Environmental control protects the catalyst from moisture, carbon dioxide and contamination while the reactor is open.
